Andy Cowen from St. Annes writes:
"... teaching in Sermathang changed my life, broadened my perspectives, and although it was hard work at times (after all, in those days the school only had 2 full time teachers) going there is a decision that I'll never regret."

Andy has also organised a penpal exchange between his school in Japan and Yangrima. He writes: "We sent off some letters at the end of last year, and received replies recently, and with any luck 12 letters should be winging their way from Japan to Nepal in the near future. Quite bizarre, but equally exciting."

Caroline Williams from Stockport (volunteer Feb-July 98) writes:
"Thank you very much for enabling me to teach at Yangrima. It was an amazing experience to become part of a different community and to be made to feel so much at home by the villagers and children."

Jessica Patterson from Belfast (volunteer Feb-July 98) telephoned to say:
"This was an unforgettable experience. We worked hard but it was rewarding in every way. The best four months of my life!"

And from parents of volunteers who have visited the village to see the project at first hand:

Andrew Fellows, Headteacher from Leeds and father of James (volunteer in 1997):
"We had such a wonderful welcome in the village. There's a lot to do but the children really want to learn. My school in Leeds has already raised £250 towards the ongoing project. Keep up the good work!"

Ray and Lesley Williams (parents of Caroline, volunteer 1998):
"We walked all day from Melamchi to Sermathang, climbing 6000ft. It was hard work, but a wonderful moment when we arrived in the evening! We helped teach in the school and were pleased to see the new building being well used. A strong point is the link between the school and the community. One 16 old pupil orgainses the weddings in the village and has taught basic hygiene to 40+ villagers".

Anthony and Martine Lunch (parents of Nick, volunteer 1990):
"It is hard to describe the sense of fullfilment that volunteers achieve on this project. The warmth of the welcome from the village, the enthusiasm of the children, the sheer beauty of the setting and the simplicity of the lifestyle; all these combine to leave indelible memories. Not surprisingly, most of the volunteers keep close contacts and help the project in a variety of ways on their return. We have had three reunions so far and twenty volunteers and their parents came to the last one."
