For
the past month, I have been touring through Nepal as tourist. Trekking
through the annapurnas and to the Everest base camp, I have been
walking the streets of Katmandu and bargaining in the shops. In
all this I realized just how grateful I am to have experienced life
in sermathang. This winter, in the three months I spent working
in yangrima and with the HWDA,
I was genuinely able to experience the nepali culture firsthand;
blessed with the opportunity to become a part of the lifestyle and
I know uphold the greatest respect for the people of Nepal, the
Hyolmo people especially.
The people of
Sermathang and the members of the Yangrima School not only felt
grateful for my help in improving their English, but I felt grateful
for what they gave to me. Together we shared culturally different
lifestyle and new friendships. I worked with a wonderful group of
women, whom I will miss tremendously, and who each takes two hours
out of her busy day to learn English and earn an education’s saw
a motivation in all people to become the best they can be, which,
in turn, motivated me. It is rewarding to feel that I played a role
in their lives and it is motivating to see the eagerness in their
hearts. Thank you to the teachers and children of Yangrima and thank
you to all the women of HWDA you
have given more than you know!
