> Numbers

The numbers one to one hundred are listed below. However, there are a few other things you need to remember when using numbers in Nepali.

The first is the concept of counters. These are used in addition to the noun and the number. For things you should use 'wotaa' and for people you should use 'janaa'. These are good when the number you are dealing with is above three. For one thing you should use 'euta' and two things you should use 'duita'. Two people is 'dui jaana'.

You must also use the counter words when asking how many. How many things is 'Kati wotaa ?' and how many people is 'Kati jaana ?'

To say things happened twice or three times you must add '-palta' or '-apalta' to the number. Thus twice is 'duipalta' and thrice is 'tinapalta'.

Ordinal numbers are different again. First is 'pahilo', second is 'dosro', third is 'tesro', fourth is 'chautho' and fifth is 'paachau'.
