School > Yangrima School Picnic, New Years Day 2054
This year our picnic was held on the 1st of Baisakh (18th April). the Nepali New Year's Day. It was the first picnic to be organised by the School's students. The members of the student council were responsible for co-ordinating the day's events.
We decided to celebrate the picnic at a place called 'Meme Jimi's Chhamgang" located near the school. We collected contributions, such as money, rice and potatoes, from the students and teachers to provide food for the picnic.
Some council members had to walk down to Melamchi to buy the picnic goods. It takes about 5 to 6 hours to make the 12 km journey there and to come back carrying the goods. The day before the picnic we made other preparations like collecting firewood and washing our school uniforms.
On the day of the picnic we arrived at the site at 7 o'clock in the morning. We all looked quite sharp in our school uniforms. We also brought spoons, cups. plates and cooking pots from our homes. All of the students worked together to make the day a great success. Some students collected firewood from the school; some brought water while others cooked. Everyone looked very happy and had a wonderful time.
We made tea for breakfast and we ate beaten rice with dalmoot. Some students played games, some danced, some sang songs and some prepared the food. We had to cook a lot of food, so it took quite a long time to prepare. We also made dal baat and curry. By 12 O'clock we were already to eat lunch together.
In the afternoon, we, the class VIII students made rice pudding by following a recipe from our "English Reader" text book. It was so nice, everybody liked it! After eating the rice pudding we all played for a while, sang songs and then the class IX students made tea.
At last all the students and teachers held hands around the picnic grounds and we sang many songs. Everybody was happy because it was a fun day.
Finally, we went to the Hotel Snowfall at 5 o'clock in the evening. We washed all the dishes, then made a fire and danced to disco music until midnight. It was a very entertaining and enjoyable day. We all went home very happy.
