School > Lophophourous
The Lophophourous is the national bird of Nepal; we call it the Danfe in Nepali. The male and female danfe stay together in their nest, they mostly live the mountains in the forest areas. In the winter season they come down from the mountains, as it is too cold for them. In Kathmandu they are also kept in the zoos. The danfe has many friends like the wild hen and the mynah bird. They all live in the forest together and never quarrel with each other. They also have some enemies such as kites and eagles. Danfe's work together keeping their nest clean. The male bird searches for food whilst the female looks after her eggs. When the eggs hatch, they feed their babies worms and little insects, as they grow older they search for food by themselves.
The danfe is very beautiful; it has nine different coloured feathers on its body and wings. It is our most beautiful bird; this is why we have named it the national bird of Nepal.
