Ang Rita Sherpa is one of the most famous people in Nepal. All Nepal people respect his bravery in climbing Mount Everest ten times without oxygen.

Ang Rita Sherpa was born in 1949 in Solukhumbu district of Nepal. He was the only child of his parents, Yollaha Sherpa and Chhokit Sherpa. In 1970 at the age of 21 he married Kanchhi Sherpa, they now have three sons and one daughter.

Ang Rita Sherpa first conquered Mount Everest in 1983. He also climbed the mountain in 1984 and 1985. He returned twice in 1988 and was victorious on both attempts. After these successful expeditions he continued to climb it once a year in 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996. This resulted in him having conquered Mount Everest ten times creating a new world record. The expeditions Ang Rita made were with different foreign expedition teams and once with the Royal Nepal Army. He also, climbed many other mountains in Nepal including Mount Dhaulagiri. Mount Kanchanjunga, Mount Makalu and Mount Chuyu.

Ang Rita received many medals for his bravery: His Majesty's Government gave him 'The Gorkha Dakshinbalu' and 'The Trishaktipatta'. Many other organisations also gave him awards and congratulated his success. Ang Rita is one of the greatest heroes of Nepal. He has become known as the snow leopard and the 'emperor of the mountain'.
