Yangrima eNews > Letter from the Principal - December 1999
Dear Yangrima Family,
I rejoined the school in October 1998, after a break of almost two years. Just in two years time, the school had changed a lot. There was an increase in the numbers of students and teachers, as well as an obvious improvement in our school environment. Now, the school has its own diesel generator to supply electricity to the school, a flour mill, and a big kitchen hall which also serves to hold various school activities. A telephone line has just been installed, and soon we are hoping to get our first computer!
The school has, no doubt, made tremendous progress materially, but the most challenging task this year was academic. The SLC (School Learning Certificate) results were fair, at 60%, but we hope to do even better in forthcoming exams. In June, 1999, we participated in the district sports tournament for the first time, and came second!
Yangrima is no longer limited to volunteers only from the UK, but has widened its scope to include countries like Denmark, Norway, USA, and very soon Australia and Hong Kong. We are already in the "take off" stage and will strive for sustainability as we enter into the next millenium.
Thank you all for your continued support of our school.
Sincerely,
Norchung Lama
Principal
