Dear Friends,
On 5th of June 1989, the school received permission to operate primary classes, in a two room makeshift building with 7 children and one teacher.
On 10th of June 1990, the School bank account was opened at Nepal Grindlays Bank, with the initial donation of US$50 from Anthony Lunch.
On 12th of June 1994, the New School building was blessed by the Ven. Khamtrul Rinpoche and the school moved into its own new buildings.
On 24th of June 1997, we received permission to operate class 10 (equivalent to English "0" level) from the Ministry of Education.
The month of June seems to be an important one in the history of Yangrima School. Au the students and teachers here at Yangrima are very happy that the school has received the permission to operate class ten next year.
Earlier this year the students of grade 8 secured the best results in the district level examination. The newly formed Students' Council has been able to generate a lot of the students' energies into school activities especially during the New Years Day picnic.
On the other hand, however, it is still very difficult to persuade new teachers to go to such a remote village, where you have to walk for a day and half to get there. The annual budget for 1997 is about £5,500, out of which the UK friends, under the co-ordination of Anthony Lunch, has committed £3,000 and the remaining £2,500 is expected to come from tuition fees (from the students or their sponsors). Next year, the expenses will become higher, in order to recruit additional teachers and purchase educational materials to meet the needs of grade 10. At this growing stage, the school very much needs your continued support You can support the school by:
a. Making a contribution at the Fund in the UK under the co-ordination of Anthony Lunch.
b. Sponsoring a child.
c. Joining the Friends of Yangrima and helping with finding volunteer teachers, sponsors etc.
I want to thank Ben Wensley (GAP Autumn '96) and his parents for their input in organic vegetable farming, making the compost box and support in acquiring buffaloes (to get milk for children and manure for compost). I also want to thank all the sponsors for your continued support and being patient with delayed communications etc. Finally, a special thanks to: all the GAP and other volunteers who have kept up their support even alter returning home. Last, but not least, a very special thanks to Anthony Lunch and his family for their tireless efforts and giving so much of their time to the school.
We send our best wishes to you and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
Gopal Lama
